Porsche 911, The Living Legend

When one thinks of Porsche cars, it is usually the Porsche 911 series that comes to one’s mind. The Porsche 911, the most popular and enduring model of the Porsche cars is a sports car. Since its introduction in 1963 by Porsche AG of Stuttgart, Germany, it has undergone continuous change and development.

The Porsche-designed Volkswagen Beetle served as the basic model for the design and production of the Porsche 911. Beetle was not a success and so, Mr. Porsche and his son, using parts from Beetle developed the 365 Roadster, a sports car. The 365 Roadster was a success and it gave way to the Porsche 911.

The Porsche 911 was actually launched as 901 in 1963 but had to change the name to 911 as another company had copyright on all three digit car models with a zero in the middle. Mr. Porsche himself had designed the body of the car. It had air cooled and rear placed six-cylinder engine and could go up to 60 mph in 8.3 seconds. It was a great success.

The Porsche 911, from the time of its inception, has been modified both by private teams and by the factory itself to meet the needs of automotive competitions like races or rallies.

Some of the popular variants of Porsche 911 are:

  • Porsche 911 classic (from 1964 to 1989)
  • Porsche 964 (from 1989 to 1993)
  • Porsche 993 (from 1993 to 1998)
  • Porsche 996 (1999 to 2004)
  • Porsche 997 (from 2004 onwards)

The rear engined Porsche 911 is famous for its distinctive and durable design. The whale tail and the round headlights of most of the Porsche 911 models serve as the distinguishing styling cues of Porsche. This distinctive design is still adorned by most of the Porsche lovers. The Porsche 911 is a living legend.

German car manufacturer, Volkswagen, has recently announced that they have made it into the top 3 car manufacturers globally in terms of sales for the first time, well, ever.

Overtaking the once giant Ford in sales for the first half of the year, Volkswagen is happy that they are moving in the right direction hoping to expand their global presence and once again increase sales. Increasing their whoesales by 7.2% to 3.31 million vehicles, topping Fords 3.22 million.

This is great news for VW, but not so great news for Ford. Maybe this will usher them into releasing some more environmentally friendly cars which seem to be all the rage in leui of rising gas prices. Is this the begining of the end of Ford, or will they be on top once again?

Veyron

Every once in a while you come across something that is so luxuriously superior and elegantly sexy that you can’t keep you mind off of it. I’m referring to something that is so extravagantly beautiful and dynamically robust that it deserves all of the hype that surrounds it. I’m talking about a car that has been described as “the fastest most powerful and most expensive road car the world has ever seen”. If you still don’t know what I’m talking about then allow me to introduce you to a super sportscar which has been praised as “the greatest automobile ever made”, the Bugatti Veyron. Before you continue onwards I should mention that if your financial standing is not approaching “island buying” status then the only relationship you will ever have with this car is the same type the deaf have with music, none whatsoever. With that being said I would recommend that you STOP! reading NOW because the Veyron is so painfully untouchable that it’s completely pointless teasing yourself any further.

In 1998, under CEO Ferdinand PiĆ«ch, Volkswagon AG acquired Bugatti and their designers were encouraged to restore the legacy and tradition that was created under it’s founder Ettore Bugatti. The project was headed by chief designer Hartmut Warkus along with exterior designer Jozef Kaban. In 2000 after years of tremendous efforts spent on concepts and revisions the utterly stunning Bugatti Veyron 16.4 was introduced to the world however due to executive changes in Volkswagon AG the Veyron underwent even more redesigns until finally making its way into the market in 2005.

The Bugatti Veyron, which was named after French race car driver Pierre Veyron, is a 2 seater 4 wheel drive carbon fiber bodied super coupe that comes equipped with a massive quad-turbocharged, 8 liter, 16-cylinder engine that has the mechanical muscle needed to produce 1,001 horsepower. The 7 speed transmission & AMD system controls the Veyron which has a 0-60 time of 2.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 253.8 mph. The Veyron also includes 10 cooling radiators, a retractable spoiler used for air brakes, and a gorgeous leather interior.

Alright folks lets get focused because you know that it’s time to get realistic. I’m sure that you all are well aware that this is not your average car and you’re going to need more than an average paying job if the faintest idea of ” I want one” ever tip-toes into your head. Not to mention the fact that the Veyron is highly exclusive with Bugatti making only 300. Rich is an understatement, you’re going to have to be nothing less than wealthy if you plan on getting involved with this car in the current economic environment. So if you’re an ordinary person who receives an ordinary yearly income then this car is simply out of your league and I would advice you to get a little “Veyron Amnesia”. Because the only way you are ever going to physically own this vehicle is if you build an innovative incredibly popular online multimedia social networking website that attracts Google who ends up buying your business for billions of dollars. Unless you create something of that magnitude I’m sorry to say this but you are NEVER GONNA GET THIS CAR. Price Tag: The Bugatti Veyron ranges from the base price of $1,500,000 to as much as $3.8 million.

New Audi Cars Concept

The company is headquartered in Ingolstadt, Germany and has been a wholly-owned (99.55%) subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group (Volkswagen AG) since 1964. Volkswagen Group relaunched the Audi brand with the 1965 introduction of the Audi 60 range. Shortly thereafter the name was acquired as part of Volkswagen's purchase of the Auto Union assets from former owner, Daimler-Benz.
The company name is based on the surname of the founder August Horch, the name itself an English cognate with the English word "hark", meaning listen — which when translated into Latin, becomes Audi.

In the recent years German sports car makers Porsche have expanded out of its usual sports car market with the introduction of the Porsche Cayenne SUV and currently with its new Panamera sedan. However the VW led company is planning to take Porsche back to its original roots.

Even though the Cayenne has been one of the biggest money maker for Porsche in the recent years, the SUV does not really fall well in the sports car image of the company. Due to this Volkswagen has decided to cut off the Cayenne from Porsche product line after the next line of the SUV has run its course. An updated version of the Cayenne will give way for the 2011 model year but no updates are expected thereafter.

Another surprising move by Volkswagen is its decision to ax the recently launched Porsche Panamera Sedan. According to sources the Cayenne and Panamera are expected to end their life cycle with a stop in production sometime in 2016.

Despite the reduction in models, VW is said to be doing a new entry level car for Porsche. The yet to be announced car is said to slot between the Porsche Boxster. For true blood Porsche enthusiasts, the removal of the Cayenne and the Panamera is welcome news.
